Beacon young men’s group engages with elementary students

June 26, 2025

The Beacon Middle School More Life young men’s group recently hosted events with students from Lewes Elementary and Love Creek Elementary schools.

First was a morning of fishing and grilling with the Lewes Elementary Gents Club students. The day began at Blockhouse Pond in Lewes, where Beacon Middle and Lewes Elementary students paired up for some catch-and-release fishing.

“It was a privilege watching our young gentlemen cast their lines alongside some of the middle schoolers who they may see next year at Beacon,” said Eddie Reese Jr., club advisor and Lewes Elementary chief custodian. “It was a great opportunity for mentorship, patience and real connection among the kids.”

Students also enjoyed burgers and hot dogs together before the Lewes Elementary kids headed back to class.

Next, the More Life representatives visited Love Creek, where they gave presentations to students on the importance of making good choices. Afterward, middle schoolers and elementary students partnered to interview each other in pairs.

“It was great to see our middle school gentlemen engaging in meaningful conversations with our elementary school gentlemen,” said Charles Mumford, Beacon teacher and More Life advisor. “It’s moments like this that show that when we create space for young men to connect and grow, they rise to the occasion with maturity, respect and a genuine desire to make good choices.”
