Beebe breaks ground on Rehoboth medical building

Beebe Healthcare has taken another step forward toward its goal of expanding facilities in Sussex County, breaking ground for a new medical office building off Route 24 near Rehoboth Beach.
Beebe President and CEO Dr. David Tam joined members of the Beebe board and other dignitaries at a ceremony Nov. 19.
“We’re partnering with other entities to find innovative ways to provide quality access to care to the people of Sussex County,” Tam said.
The new building is located on the Abessinio Campus, at the corner of Healthy Way and Beebe Road, adjacent to the Medical Arts Building and Tunnell Cancer Center.
Beebe is partnering with the Lewes Surgical Center on the three-story, 60,000-square-foot facility.
It will include four outpatient operating rooms on the second floor, doubling the number at the surgical center’s current location on Old Orchard Road outside Lewes.
Dr. Edward Jaoude, an ophthalmologist at the Lewes Surgery Center, said the new facility is a prime opportunity to expand.
“This is going to increase our capabilities to be able to provide a broader range of services and reach more people,” Jaoude said. “We look forward to writing the next chapter, growing side by side with Beebe.”
The project is expected to be completed in about 16 months.
