Beebe Healthcare recognized for low readmission rates after hip and knee replacements

December 5, 2016

Beebe Healthcare was recognized by Becker's Healthcare Infection Control and Clinical Quality as being among 36 hospitals with the lowest 30-day readmission rates for hip and knee replacement surgery, according to data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In addition to being listed with these high-quality hospitals, Beebe's rate tied for second in the nation.

According to Becker's, information was gathered from Hospital Compare for dates from July 2012 through June 2015. All of the hospitals on the list have a readmission rate for hip and knee replacement of 3.4 per 1,000 or lower. The national average readmission rate for those procedures is 4.6. Beebe's readmission rate during this time frame was 2.9.

"The Orthopaedic Services team at Beebe Healthcare focuses on the needs of their patients throughout the healthcare continuum," said Joseph T. DeRanieri, DM, MSN, RN, BCECR, executive director of orthopaedic services at Beebe Healthcare. "We feel our integrated approach to care from surgery, to Beebe Home Care Services and Beebe Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation, contributes to the success of the patient. This collaboration of efforts is showcased through our low readmission rates."
