Beebe Healthcare sponsors Delaware Stroke Summit

December 11, 2023

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association held its second annual Statewide Stroke Summitt Dec. 2 at Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach.

The event was a collaboration between Beebe Healthcare and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

The four-hour event featured a series of presenters to educate and inform residents about the risk factors of stroke; warning signs of stroke; the latest information on prevention, treatment and care; the latest advances in research; and more.

Heart disease is the nation’s No. 1 cause of death, claiming nearly a million lives each year, more than all forms of cancer combined. Stroke is the fifth-highest cause of death in the U.S., the third-highest cause of death in Delaware, and a leading cause of long-term disability.

David A. Tam, president & CEO of Beebe Healthcare, and E. Thomas Harvey III, American Heart Association Delaware board of directors leadership chair, hosted the informative presentations.

“As a health system focused on the care of Sussex County, Beebe has been thrilled to host this engaging conference in partnership with the American Heart association,” said Tom Trobiano, executive director of Cardiovascular and Neurosciences Services at Beebe. “Educating the community about prevention, treatment and stroke care is something that cannot be publicized enough.”
