Beebe welcomes new clinicians to oncology and hospitalist teams
Beebe Healthcare recently announced the arrival of four new clinicians to join its team.
Samuel Birer, MD, is a radiation oncologist who sees patients at both Beebe South Coastal Cancer Center in Millville and Beebe Tunnell Cancer Center located on the Abessinio Health Campus north of Rehoboth Beach. He treats a wide range of cancers utilizing the most modern radiation therapy techniques, including intensity modulated radiation therapy, image guided radiation therapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy.
“I am excited to join Beebe because Sussex County is growing exponentially, and so are the healthcare needs of the local population,” said Birer. “Cancer care is essential for any community, and providing excellent medical care closer to home removes a major barrier to receiving treatment for residents of Southern Delaware.”
Akanksha Kushwah, MD, is a medical oncologist who sees patients at Beebe’s Tunnell Cancer Center on the Abessinio Health Campus. She focuses on diagnosis and treatment of solid cancers and has a specialized interest in gastroenterologic and thoracic malignancies.
“I personally value the opportunity to practice in a community-based hospital setting and am grateful to be a member of Beebe’s medical staff,” said Kushwah.
Ajay Koirala, MD, is a hospitalist who provides comprehensive care for adult patients undergoing treatment in the hospital for a wide range of medical issues. He serves as a trusted consultant for Beebe’s surgical teams, offering clinical perspective and guidance as operative cases are planned and performed.
“My family relocated to the United States in 2015 and realized we are country people who appreciate a laid-back community with activities for our kids,” said Koirala. “Beebe fit that profile perfectly, and the organization’s ambition to grow offers opportunities to advance within the organization. We are excited to be here.”
Christopher Miller, MSN, APRN, ACNPC-AG, is a nurse practitioner working as part of Beebe’s hospitalist team. He provides care for patients who have been admitted to the hospital for various acute and chronic medical conditions, and he has a specialized interest in caring for the geriatric population. Miller has worked for Beebe in various roles since 2016. Prior to joining the hospitalist team, he was a charge nurse on the intensive care and cardiothoracic intensive care units.
“I was born at Beebe and am a proud lifelong resident of Sussex County,” said Miller. I appreciate the opportunity to serve my friends and neighbors, and build my career in the community I have always called home.”
