Betty Goldenson, devout Catholic
Betty Goldenson, 93, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, surrounded by family. Betty was born in Cleveland, Ohio. At an early age, Betty moved with her family to Dubuque, Iowa, where she attended Catholic schools. One of her fondest childhood memories was enjoying chocolate milkshakes after school at a local drugstore, courtesy of a store credit her father had arranged.
Betty was one of six sisters, two of whom passed away in early childhood. Betty was also preceded in death by her sisters, Helene Guella and Lee Ann Bilsky. She is survived by her sister, Vivian Miller; her son, Ed Lavergne; her daughter, Michele Pfeifer; stepson, Joe Goldenson; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In 1976, Betty married Felix Goldenson, who was the love of her life. They lived in New Jersey for several years before relocating to South Florida, where they resided in Highland Beach and Palm Beach County. Toward the end of her life, Betty reminisced fondly about their time in Florida and their many trips abroad, which included visits to Medjugorje, Bosnia (formerly Yugoslavia) and the Holy Land. After Felix’s passing in 2020 at the age of 102, Betty moved to Lewes, where she resided at The Moorings at Lewes and made several close friends.
Betty’s warmth, faith, and kindness touched everyone she knew. A devout Catholic with a kind and gentle soul, Betty placed deep importance on her faith and service to the Catholic Church. She served as a parishioner, lector, and Eucharistic minister at Saint Lucy’s Parish in Highland Beach, and at Lourdes McKeon Chapel in Palm Beach. Since 2022, Betty has been a parishioner at St. Jude the Apostle in Lewes. She will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 24, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
