Betty Mae Williams Gooch, Cape district teacher

Betty Mae Williams Gooch, 60, of Milton, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving husband, children and other family members. Betty was born March 6, 1952, in Lewes, to the late Eugene E. and Irene Norwood Williams.

Betty spent her entire life in the Lewes and Milton area where she and her husband reared their family. Betty was completing her 36th year as a teacher with the Cape Henlopen School District, teaching at the Richard A. Shields Elementary School in Lewes. Betty was a lifelong member of Israel UM Church, serving as Penn-Del Conference Lay Leader, Prison Ministries, LRAC, Israel UM Women, Young Adults, Lewes Charge Lay Leader, PPR Committee for Lewes charge, Bishop Yumba Conference for Congo, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Book Club.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ralph P. Gooch; four daughters, Tiffany I. Gooch and Tony Wilson of Milton, Katina M. Gooch of Milton, Cynthia E. I. Hulbert of Millsboro, and Ashley and Richard Hall of Seaford; eight grandchildren; three brothers, N. Earl and Delores Williams of Dover, Eugene E. and Carolyn Williams of Millsboro and Ronnie Taylor of Texas; five sisters, Lewanda M. and the Rev. Henry Wright of Buffalo, N.Y., her twin Evelyn R. and Melvin Stanley of Seaford, Jeanette I. and Jesse Peterson of Georgetown, Alice M. and Gregory Freeman of Charlotte, N.C. and Bonnie Hatton of Millsboro.

Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June, 10, at Epworth UM Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth. Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, June 11, at the church were friends can call two hours prior. Arrangements by Miller Funeral & Cremation Services.
