Big Draw patrons can build sandcastles in downtown Milford Oct. 7
Mispillion Art League will again host the Big Draw Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7. Attendees can enjoy free, family-friendly art activities on Park Avenue in downtown Milford.
This year’s theme, Drawing with Senses, is a call back to what one is experiencing in the moment. MAL will offer activities designed to engage touch, sight, sound, taste and smell in the creation of art.
One of the many activities offered this year is building sandcastles with award-winning, master sandcastle builders Andy West and Darrell O’Connor on Park Avenue. Participants can bring their imagination and experience the joy of working in the sand to create castles or creatures, or just enjoy the tactile sensations. This activity is always a big hit with both kids and adults who participate in the Big Draw.
There will also be a self-portrait activity with Pat Southern-Pearce, an internationally recognized artist; making edible canvases with cookies; music-inspired animal drawing; squiggle art; drawing with chalk on the sidewalk; and a variety of drawing and painting activities.
First organized in the United Kingdom in 2000, the Big Draw Festival is now the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. It promotes the universal language of drawing as a tool to learn, express and invent. Activities are for anyone looking to have a fun art-making experience.
MAL also offers a gift shop and art classes in many different mediums for age 9 and above at 5 N. Walnut St., Milford.
