Blood clinic at Fort Miles gym

October 18, 2022

A few weeks ago, we shared a photograph taken before a 1940s boxing match at the Fort Miles gym. In the photo, soldiers are standing at attention surrounding the boxing ring. This photograph, taken about the same time, shows that the gym served many purposes. According to the description on the Delaware Public Archives website, this was a blood clinic that collected 600 pints for the Red Cross. The gym was located opposite to the chapel, which is now used as a youth center. The gym is no longer standing. There are basketball courts and a children's playground in this area today.
