Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game rosters announced
Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities has announced the players selected for the 67th annual DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game, to be played Friday, June 16, at the University of Delaware. The DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game showcases Hand-in-Hand Buddies — children and young adults with intellectual disabilities — and Delaware’s finest high school students who participate as football players, cheerleaders, band members and school ambassadors.
DFRC and the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association have selected Jody Russell of Newark High School (Blue) and Brian Timpson of Appoquinimink High School (Gold) to be the head coaches for this year’s game. Both football squads comprise 36 high school senior players chosen from across Delaware as students of outstanding character who are also exceptional football players.
Assisting Russell on the Blue coaching staff will be Jordan Biscoe, Darren Brodie and Tyran Rice of Newark High School; Dan Ritter from Howard High School of Technology; and Chet Walters from Conrad Schools of Science.
Timpson has selected Frank Clark, Paul Frame and Kurt von Brandt of Appoquinimink High School; Mark Quillin from Seaford High School; and Marvin Dooley from Woodbridge High School to assist him.
The first DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Game was played in 1956. Today, nearly 50 public, private, parochial, vo-tech and charter schools across the entire state are invited to participate, helping to spread DFRC’s message of diversity, acceptance and abilities throughout their schools and communities.
The 2023 DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game will be the 67th time this annual event will take place. Proceeds from the game and the DFRC Blue-Gold Program are used to support programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout the state of Delaware. Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m., with kickoff set for 7 p.m. For more information and to purchase game tickets, go to dfrc.org or call the DFRC office at 302-454-2730.
