Body found in parked car on Olive Avenue identified

The body of man found dead inside a park car on Olive Avenue in Rehoboth Beach in June has been identified as a Virginia man.

Police were called to Olive Avenue June 24 for a report of foul odor coming from a Mazda CX-5 with Virginia plates. Police found a dead man inside who had been partially covered to hide the view from the outside.

The Division of Forensic Science identified the body as Lewis Johnson, 85, of Reston, Va., and said he died of natural causes. Police said a family member drove Johnson to Rehoboth Beach after his death.

Police said out of concern for the family member’s well-being and after consulting with relatives, a Gold Alert was issued June 28. The individual was safely located the following day and taken to a medical facility for evaluation. 

No criminal charges are pending, police said, and this case is now closed.
