Book sales to support Nanticoke Indian Tribe Sept. 10-11
Local author Ed Moran will be selling an updated edition of his book, “The Dreamcatcher of Rehoboth Beach,” at the Nanticoke Indian Tribe’s 44th Annual Powwow, set for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11, at Hudson Fields, 30045 Eagle Crest Road, Milton. All sales proceeds will go to the Nanticoke tribe.
While signing copies of his book at last year’s powwow, Moran met representatives from an organization called MMIW, dedicated to generating awareness of missing and murdered indigenous women. At their request, he added a chapter to his book to bring attention to the organization’s mission. Moran took a photograph of their signage and used it to accompany the new chapter, Not My Choice.
“It is my favorite chapter, and I hope MMIW feels the same way once I introduce it to them at the powwow this year,” he said.
The historical, illustrated fantasy follows a young, proud Nanticoke woman named Skye as she channels the power of the mystical Dreamcatcher through animal-shaped candies in the resort town of Rehoboth Beach.
“Native American history and mythology play an important role in bringing my story to life. I also rely heavily on local places of interest and history such as the Punkin’ Chunkin’, the Sea Witch Festival and the historic Rosedale Beach Resort,” said Moran.
