Botanic gardens shares spring cheer at Milford rehab facility

April 5, 2020

Spring has arrived in Delaware, but with the current medical emergency affecting society, few people are able to enjoy this special season.

Delaware Botanic Gardens donated more than 100 pots of flowering narcissus bulbs to the Milford Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility March 24.

Sheryl Swed, Delaware Botanic Gardens executive director, said, “While we can’t currently welcome guests to our garden, we are finding ways to bring our gardens to the community.”

Center staff members said the donation couldn’t have come at a better time. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, center residents are not allowed to have visitors, and their daily routines have been affected.

Hoping to lift spirits and celebrate spring, botanic gardens team members were honored to donate to the center residents. In the weeks ahead, the gardens team will be virtually sharing its springtime displays with images and videos on social media and its website.

Brian Trader, DBG deputy executive director and director of horticulture, said, “We want our members and community to feel connected with the garden, our beauty and our nature.”
