Bridgeville man charged with murder after police find body in car trunk

June 13, 2023

A Bridgeville man faces a murder charge June 13 after police found a body in the trunk of his car, and found him hiding in a Little Creek shed.

Delaware State Police had been searching for Alan Alcantara, 27, since June 9 after Bridgeville police went to a Cedar Street home for a missing person report. Officers saw signs of a violent confrontation, and a resident, Troy Scofield, 52, could not be located.

Alcantara was seen driving away from the home in a blue 2006 Honda Civic, and police later obtained a warrant for his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder.

On June 11, police said they found the Honda parked on a commercial property in the 20500 block of Route 13 in Georgetown, and they found Scofield’s body in the trunk.

On June 13, Dover police responded to the 1000 block of South Little Creek Road for a suspicious person report, and they found Alcantara hiding in a shed. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Alcantara was taken to Troop 3 and charged with first-degree murder. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $1,000,000 cash bond.

This case is still being investigated by the Homicide Unit. Investigators ask anyone with information to contact Detective D. Grassi at 302-365-8441 or Daniel.Grassi@delaware.gov, send a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police, or call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
