Browseabout Books gives back to Delaware Humane Nov. 30-Dec. 6

November 25, 2020

As part of their Holiday Giving Campaign, Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach is generously supporting the Delaware Humane Association. From Monday, Nov. 30, through Sunday, Dec. 6, DHA will receive 15 percent of purchases made that week, as long as customers mention DHA at checkout.  For those shopping online during that week, they can mention DHA in the comment section of the order. This generous donation made possible by Browseabout Books comes at the perfect time, too, as DHA’s Rehoboth Beach adoption center is currently under renovation.

Three years ago, DHA, headquartered in Wilmington, opened its Rehoboth adoption center to better serve Sussex County. DHA’s mission of “making friends for life” is partially fulfilled by matching dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, with their forever families.  The DHA Rehoboth center also contributes to the community with low-cost pet vaccine clinics and pet food pantries. Staff and volunteers assist with food banks, host social gatherings for all pet lovers, and widen community engagement through partnerships with local businesses.  DHA Rehoboth accounts for about a third of all DHA’s adoptions and has a dedicated corps of over 100 volunteers who walk, train, socialize and foster the animals.

DHA Rehoboth, located in Midway Plaza, is currently closed for a total renovation that will allow DHA to meet increasing demand for adoptable pets in Sussex County in a safe and comfortable environment and to enhance the overall adoption experience for both pets and families. Adoptions will continue throughout the renovation by potential adopters reviewing available animals online, filling out an application, and setting appointments to meet the animal.

Patrick Carroll, DHA executive director, stated: “We are so grateful to Browseabout for their amazing generosity especially during this time when their resources, like all small businesses, are stretched.  I hope all who love animals and appreciate having Browseabout in our community will do some shopping there.”

Susan Kehoe, manager of Browseabout Books, also stated: “Browsebout is proud to support a number of worthwhile local charities this holiday season! Keep your dollars in our community by shopping local and giving local.”

Foster families are critical to DHA’s adoption services during the renovation process, and DHA is actively looking for more foster families as well. No experience is necessary to save a life and no other volunteer work is required.  DHA provides all necessary supplies - foster families provide the love. Anyone interested in fostering either a dog or cat can apply at www.DelawareHumane.org.
