In April, Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach will host a local book drive to collect new or gently used books for the Cape Henlopen School District Bookmobile.
The Cape Bookmobile collects books during the school year to hand out to children in local communities throughout the summer months.
Book reading levels range in age from birth to middle school. Books written in English and/or Spanish are accepted.
“Browseabout has always been a very big supporter of our bookmobile,” said Donna Kolakowski, Cape supervisor of elementary education. “Each year they donate new books for our volunteers to hand out, so when they came to us with the idea of holding a book drive, it was a no-brainer!”
Over a five-week timespan, the Cape Bookmobile travels three days a week to high-need neighborhoods in the district. Principals, staff, the Cape Readiness Team and community members all volunteer their time to hand out books.
"We at Browseabout take great joy in putting books in children's hands. We wanted to give our customers the same opportunity by asking them to donate a new book for the Cape Henlopen Bookmobile,” said Susan Kehoe, Browseabout Books manager. “This small act of kindness will make a big difference in the lives of children right here in Sussex County."
New and gently used books can be dropped off by community members at Browseabout Books. The store will also offer a 30 percent discount to customers who purchase a book at Browseabout to donate to the bookmobile.
