Buddha At The Beach returns with Jonathan Foust Sept. 18

September 16, 2009

The Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will host a weekend of mindfulness with returning meditation and yoga teacher Jonathan Foust Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19.

The First Friday dharma talk will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m., at Saint Peter’s Parish Hall in Lewes. Foust has chosen the topic self and the world to encourage how one cultivates wakefulness in life while consciously expressing the self in the world.

Saturday’s full-day retreat, Buddha at the Beach: Meditation with Nature, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the rejuvenating setting of Cape Henlopen State Park. It is a day for beginning and practiced meditators.

This mostly silent retreat day will be supported with brief dharma discussion, guided meditations and time outside practicing walking and seated meditation. Yoga on the beach will also be included, so participants should bring warm or layered clothing.

For the past 30 years, Jonathan Foust, MA, has studied and practiced numerous meditation disciplines from the yogic and Buddhist traditions, having lived 15 years in a monastic setting. He has been leading retreats and training teachers for more than 20 years in residential and corporate settings.

He is the president emeritus and a senior teacher at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, the largest teaching facility for yoga and holistic health in North America. He is also on the teacher’s council of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington and teaches a number of local classes in the Washington, D.C.-metropolitan area. He has been widely quoted for his commentary on yoga, meditation, spirituality and healing in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Yoga Journal and other national publications and media.

Saint Peter’s Episcopal Parish Hall is at second and Mulberry streets in Lewes. The suggested donation is $5. Saturday’s retreat will be at the Biden Center in Cape Henlopen State Park. The suggested donation is $45, which includes lunch. Chairs are provided, and attendees should bring their favorite floor cushions or blankets. Biden Center passes are available that morning at the park office. The door opens at 8:30 a.m. Leave a reservation message with Nick Edge at 302-945-4094.
