Buffalo Wild Wings donates to Sussex Consortium

Buffalo Wild Wings presented a $7,000 donation to the Sussex Consortium May 9 through its foundation’s Team Up for Kids initiative.

Through the initiative, employees choose an organization to receive funds donated by coworkers and diners each October, said Buffalo Wild Wings Multi-Unit Manager Jimmy Gallagher. This is the second year Buffalo Wild Wings employees chose to benefit consortium students.

The consortium has partnered with the restaurant since it opened in 2012, said Buffalo Wild Wings General Manager Jozelyn Gentner, who said groups of students work shifts three days a week. Students wear the same uniforms as other employees, Gentner said, and their duties give them a real sense of the work world.

“It’s awesome to have them here. It’s definitely taught me a lot,” Gentner said, noting her interactions with students have helped her learn how to better communicate with her own niece, who has autism.

The Sussex Consortium vocational program helps students with disabilities become self-sufficient employees. Students work at local businesses and organizations, where they learn skills needed to transition to the workplace.
