Burke Equipment marks first year in Delmar

At Burke Equipment Company’s newest sales floor and showroom in Delmar, Gov. Jack Markell took a look around and declared the company’s growth and expansion a Delaware business success story.
"Anytime we have a Delaware company that's expanding, we need to celebrate those successes," Markell said. "There's more than 30 employees here, that's 30 families with a better future than they would have otherwise."
Members of Sussex County Council and other state officials joined Mark and Cece Babbitt, owners of Burke Equipment, as they celebrated a successful first year of the company’s expansion to Delmar. The company also has Newark and Felton locations.
"It's hard to believe this was just a small single store in Camden in 1949," said Alan Levin, director of the Delaware Economic Development Office. "There is a quality of service here that is unparalleled anywhere else in our state."
The company offers a wide range of outdoor equipment such as tractors, loaders, excavators, trimmers and blowers along with the parts and a strong service department to keep those investments running through all seasons. According to the company website, Burke is one of the top Kubota dealers in the country, and among the largest on the Delmarva Peninsula.
With financing and pre-owned and rental equipment available, the business has expanded to fill a need in the state, Levin said.
Congratulating Burke Equipment on its record of customer service, Markell and Levin were joined by U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, who recalled the success of a small business in his family also built on strong customer service.
But without the help of staff of loyal and devoted employees, Mark Babbitt said, the continued success would not have been possible.
"We have a great company and we have hardworking, dedicated employees," Babbitt said. "One of the mottos is whatever you gotta do, you gotta do it to get the job done."
