Business leaders to discuss risks, opportunities related to climate change Jan. 31
Business leaders increasingly recognize that the long-term survival and success of their companies depend upon their response to the threats and opportunities posed by climate change.
Several business leaders will share their insights and approach to preparing for the future during a virtual forum at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, via Zoom, hosted by Delaware Interfaith Power and Light and Citizens’ Climate Lobby of Delaware. Whether today’s executives and entrepreneurs seek to respond to the climate crisis directly by offering innovative goods and services or simply seek to avoid climate-related disruptions in their business, they will face many decisions as they navigate a rapidly changing environment in the coming years.
“People who own and run businesses are inherently leaders of their communities,” said Beth Chajes, Delaware state coordinator for Citizens’ Climate Lobby. “They are constantly scanning the horizon for arising issues and opportunities. We look for their example, and legislators and policymakers respond to their needs.”
“Business leaders of the 21st century can play a vital role in tackling the climate crisis, working in collaboration with government and nonprofits,” said Shweta Arya, Delaware Interfaith Power and Light executive director.
In a conversation moderated by Kyle Kammien, Citizens’ Climate Lobby manager of stakeholder engagement and government affairs, the panelists will discuss the risks and opportunities posed by climate change for their business, as well as responsibilities of leadership and how they engage policymakers and stakeholders on climate issues. The panelists will also take questions from the audience.
Joining the discussion will be Ian Harris, Bloc Power business development manager; Matt Wampler, ClearCogs co-founder; Cora Castle, OmniPotential Energy Partners president and CEO; and Bill Stough, West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum founder.
The Climate Conversations initiative is a program of Delaware Interfaith Power and Light, funded by Energize Delaware, creating opportunities to openly, candidly and respectfully discuss issues related to climate change; to share individual beliefs, confusions, observations, fears and hopes; and to explore practical ideas and available resources for creating a healthier planet.
