CAMP Rehoboth theatre season to open June 23
The CAMP Rehoboth Theatre Company announced its 2022-23 season, which is set to include its most experimental and unique productions yet.
This season will center on LGBTQ stories and further CAMP Rehoboth’s mission to bring arts to the community. All shows will be directed by Russell Stiles.
The first production will be “An Evening with F.J. Hartland,” two one-act comedies set outdoors in the CAMP Rehoboth Courtyard, weather permitting. Performances will move to the Elkins-Archibald Atrium if necessary. Scheduled for June Thursday to Saturday, June 23 to 25, this show is sure to be one of CAMP’s most innovative productions yet.
The first one-act show, “Auto-Erotic Misadventure,” follows three roommates who confront the confusion of living together. Cliff is into macrame, Brandon is a D.C. call boy, and Norma just wants to be held. Drama and hilarity ensue.
The second one-act show, “Ponce de Leon is Dead,” follows another entwined trio. Giselle is a rich Florida widow looking for companionship. J.D. is a poor illegal male stripper, and Vaughn, Giselle’s hardworking CEO son, is trying to protect the family fortune. The comic pursuit of love is never-ending.
The second production of the year will be “Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche” by Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder. It’s 1956 and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. As the assembled “widows” await the announcement of the society's prize-winning quiche, the atomic bomb sirens sound. Winner of the 2012 NYC International Fringe Festival as Best Overall Production, “Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche” is a tasty recipe of hysterical laughs, sexual innuendoes, unsuccessful repressions and delicious discoveries.
Show dates are Thursday and Friday, Sept. 29 and 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Elkins-Archibald Atrium.
Finally, in February 2023, CAMP Rehoboth will present “Burgerz,” a one-person show by Travis Alabanza. After transphobic slurs – and a hamburger – are thrown at theatre artist Travis Alabanza, a newfound passion is ignited. They become obsessed with hamburgers: how they are made, how they feel and smell, how they travel through the air, how the mayonnaise feels on the skin.
