“The meet didn’t go the way we would have liked, but I am very proud of this group of young men,” said Cape boys’ coach Ellis Gaulden. “They came together as a team and put out some great performances. Overall, great season for the boys’ winter track team, and we are looking to continue our development into the spring season.”
In girls’ action, the Vikings are loaded with freshman, and they were led by freshman Montana Jones, who finished fifth in the 55-meter dash in 7.73, seventh in the 200-meter dash in 28.72 and led off the 4-by-200 relay team of sophomore Lexi Dougherty, freshman Hannah Maney and freshman Lainey Shockro that finished fourth in a season-best time of 1:53.76. The Vikings led off the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 4-by-800 relay, as the team of Dougherty, Katie Kuhlman, Shockro and Jarvis finished in a season best of 10:31.05, while Kuhlman returned to finish ninth in the 1,600 meters in 5:58.6. Jarvis was sixth in the long jump at 15-1, while freshman Lindsey D’Ambrogi was seventh in the triple jump at 28-9. Thrower Hailey Archambault was fourth in the shot put with a 26-5 throw.
“Overall with all the young kids we have, we have to be pleased, but we also know we left points on the track in all three relays and in the jumps,” said coach Gilbert Maull. “We should have been right in the mix with Smyrna and Tatnall battling for that third team spot.”
