Cape baseball celebrates championsip season

The Cape Henlopen baseball team held its awards banquet June 13, when the squad celebrated its DIAA state championship. The Vikings defeated Appoquinimink 4-1 to garner their second state title. They won the first in 2018.

“It was a really great night where we got to honor all the hard work and dedication these guys put into the program this year,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “They earned everything they got, from the individual awards to the conference and state championship. They have been a very special team, and we are extremely proud of all they have accomplished. We can’t wait to see them grow as college athletes/students and returners next year.”

Garnering the varsity Team MVP Award was senior Josh Reinhold. The MVP Pitcher Award went to junior Nick Cox. The Defensive MVP Award went to senior Austin Rhue. The Offensive MVP Award recipient was junior catcher Brenn Scott. Junior Timmy Hitchcock was presented the Chris Short Award, and the Sportsmanship Award went to senior Paris Mitchell. 

Reed Thompson was presented the junior varsity Defensive MVP Award, while the Offensive MVP Award went to Jase Mitchell. The JV Team MVP Award was presented to Brady Kosc. The JV Sportsmanship Award went to Luke McCarthy.
