Cape baseball falls 2-1 on Senior Day

Vikings come up short against tough Stephen Decatur squad
May 8, 2023

The Cape baseball team honored the Class of 2023 May 5, but fell to a strong Stephen Decatur team 2-1 to move to 12-3 on the season. The Seahawks are 17-2.

Nick Cox went the distance on the mound, striking out six batters.

Jaxon Clampitt doubled and scored Brady Kosc, who reached on a Seahawks error in the second inning. Lex Wescott also slammed a double for the Vikings.

Ryder Swanson was 2-for-2 with a solo home run. He scored both runs for Stephen Decatur.

“It was a battle,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “Very good pitching on both sides. We had multiple scoring opportunities, but could not get timely hitting. We took the lead in the second inning and they tied it in the third on a home run. I thought Nick threw very well.”

The Vikings will head upstate to Saint Mark’s Tuesday, May 9, before going south to Indian River Thursday, May 11. The Henlopen Conference Championship game against IR is set for Friday, May 12, at Cape.
