The Cape Henlopen school board recognized Beacon Middle financial secretary Katina Norwood and substitute Janise Blondin as Going the Extra Mile honorees for 2023-24 at its monthly meeting March 14.

Norwood helped support the office staff during a short-staffed period, said board member Jessica Tyndall, noting coworkers refer to her as Mama Bear because she has everyone’s best interests at heart.

Substitute Janise Blondin has worked in two long-term teaching positions and is known for her positive attitude, said board member Jason Bradley.

Superintendent Bob Fulton said the district is fortunate to have the best staff and dedicated community members who serve as substitutes and mentors to students.

“What you do with kids really does make a difference,” he said. “I know it’s not easy. It’s hard work, and for you to do it so long with a smile on your face, we really appreciate it.”
