Cape boys’ tennis defeats Sussex Academy 3-2

Vikings remain undefeated

The Cape boys’ tennis team moved to 4-0 April 4 with a 3-2 victory over visiting Sussex Academy.

Sussex Academy’s Dawson Weems defeated Oliver Townsend 6-2, 6-1 in first singles, while the Seahawks’ third singles player Arpan Patel downed Cape’s John Southerst 6-2, 7-6 (10-7 tiebreak).

Vikings second singles player Ben Koly defeated Ayden Ferris 6-2, 6-1, and the first doubles team of Declan Morrissey and Aiden Bowman downed William Blakeney and Evan Jarrell 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Cape’s second doubles team of Rahul A. Patel and Rahul S. Patel defeated Nicholas Holmon and Ronin Max 7-5, 6-2.

The Vikings take their undefeated record to Salesianum Wednesday, April 6, while the 2-1 Seahawks host Lake Forest at the Peninsula Golf & Country Club.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
