March 26, 2026

The Cape boys’ basketball team celebrated its 18-4 season with an end-of-season banquet March 22 at Irish Eyes in Lewes. The Vikings advanced to the DIAA quarterfinals before falling 72-64 to eventual state champion Howard Vo-Tech School.

The banquet started with freshman coach Paul Freel and JV coach Solomon Cox reviewing their seasons.

Cape coach Steve Re then reviewed the varsity season and handed out awards with the help of assistant coach Sean O’Grady.

Junior Jameson Tingle was voted the Team MVP. He also received first-team All-Henlopen North, first-team all-state and Top 15 All-South honors.

Junior Geordan Downing received second-team All-Henlopen North and Top 15 All-South. Senior Braxton Figgs received honorable mention All-Henlopen North and the Team Leadership Award. He also was chosen to play in the Senior North v. South All-Star game.

Stephen Sivels received second-team All-Henlopen North, honorable mention all-state, Team Most Improved Award and Top 15 All-South. Senior Lawson Whaley received Academic All-Conference and the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Re was voted Henlopen Conference Coach of the Year.

“The banquet was a great way to end a terrific season,” Re said. “We took so many steps in the right direction this year and had a tremendous amount of success. Many players received personal recognition, and our team had a great run. I am hopeful that our junior class takes to heart some of the things we learned this season and can lead us to another level next year. It was a great group of kids to coach and be around.”
