The Cape boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each cruised to Sussex County Championships Oct. 29 at Sussex Academy. The boys posted a low score of 23, while Indian River finished in second place with 65 points.

The girls won the title with 28 points, while Sussex Tech came in second with 52.

Cape’s Ethan Edery dominated the following field of runners, circling the 5K course in 16:05. Cape’s top five runners all placed in the top 10, with Julian Calloway, second, 16:24; Sam Epstein, fifth, 16:33; Ryan Baker, sixth, 16:38; and Hunter Jones, ninth, 17:03. Lance Kauffman and Daniel Adili-Khams placed 12th and 13th, respectively.

Cracking the top 10 were Jake Mundok, Sussex Academy, third, 16:28; David Wootten, Sussex Central, fourth, 16:33; Declan Burke, Indian River, seventh, 16:49; Robert Senseny, Indian River, eighth, 16:55; and Caleb Bradley, Sussex Tech, 10th, 17:07.

Cape freshman Katie Kuhlman led the entire race, winning in 19:19. The Vikings placed five runners in the top 10, including Mia Nuebling, third, 20:25; Olivia Brozefsky, sixth, 20:41; Lindsay Rambo, eighth, 20:53; and Elizabeth Melson, 10th, 21:12. Cape’s Taylor Johnson placed 11th in 21:19, and Ariana Adili-Khams was 13th in 21:26.

Also placing in the top 10 in the girls’ race were: Emily Trout, Sussex Academy, second, 20:01; Helena Helou, Sussex Academy, fourth, 20:28; Kaitlyn Cavallucci, Sussex Tech, fifth, 20:35; Hannah Murphy, Sussex Tech, seventh, 20:44; and Victoria LeCates, Sussex Tech, ninth, 21:11.

The race course was a little short, which generated fast times. Most runners are connected to satellite via GPS wristwatches, so they all knew the times at the Henlopen Conference Championships at Killens Pond Saturday, Nov. 2, will be slower unless they run faster.

Team results for the Sussex County Cross Country Championships include:
