Cape district thanks community champions

Clear Space Theatre Company and Grotto Pizza Grand Slam were named Cape Community Champions at the Cape Henlopen school board meeting Dec. 8.
School board President Alison Myers said Clear Space has partnered with the Cape High vocational program for six years, giving students experience in performing custodial and organizational tasks for the theater. Clear Space also hosts schools for free matinees of its latest musicals and plays, Myers said.
Grotto Pizza Grand Slam has partnered with the Sussex Consortium vocational program partner for 10 years, Myers said. Four days a week, five to 10 students a day work at the restaurant, learning to make salads, bag appetizers, bus tables, run the dishwasher, and learn other skills that will help them when they enter the workplace, she said.
