Cape junior quarterback Jameson Tingle threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more, as he led the Vikings to a 33-3 season-opening victory over Saint Mark’s Aug. 28 at Legends Stadium in Lewes.
Tingle went 9 of 14 for 162 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 117 yards on seven carries for two touchdowns.
“We’re still trying to find ourself as a team,” said head coach Chip Knapp. “We have a lot of weapons. Jameson has the ability to spread things out and we have to make the defense cover everyone. We can’t be one-dimensional. But it all starts with Jameson. He really stepped up and I think we’ll see a lot of that this season. Hopefully we can build on that.”
“I saw a flash of this when we were at the Salisbury camp,” said Tingle. “I saw a flash at our scrimmages and now when we put it all together this is the result, a dominate team win.”
“It fells great to win,” said Oz Batson. “We are all on the same page. We all contacted each other this morning and went over what we can do to win tonight. Everyone is buying in. I’m playing with a chip on my shoulder.”
The Vikings will host William Penn Friday, Sept. 5 in the season’s second week.
