Cape Gazette brings home the gold and the bronze at the 2022 National Senior Games

June 11, 2022

In May, the 2022 National Senior Games were held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The games included 21 sporting events varying from archery to volleyball with approximately 12,000 athletes competing. The three local athletes pictured on the podium from (l-r) include Douglas Winkelmann with a bronze medal, Barbara Fishetti with two golds, and Ingrid Callmann with two golds. They all participated in racquetball and returned to Delaware having medaled in their age groups. Barbara’s softball team, the Noreasters, also brought home the gold. As Warren Blaney, founder of the senior games, once said, “Instead of looking back as they get older, senior Olympians think about tomorrow. They think, I’ll beat that guy next year.”
