Cape girls’ basketball thumps Tech

January 26, 2023

The Sussex Tech pep band drums pounded the heads and the Cape girls’ basketball team didn’t miss a beat as the Vikings flew past the Ravens 64-27 Jan. 24.

Four Vikings reached double figures, with Amalia Fruchtman leading the way with 19 points. She paired with her twin tower teammate Hayden Hudson to garner nine blocked shots and 10 rebounds.

“I get really hyped out there,” said Fruchtman. “It’s fun to see all of us all working together as a team. I get so happy for everyone on the team. It all comes together and it’s great. This game is a building block for us.”

Ja’Onna Lee had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Faith Re totaled 14 points, hitting three from behind the three-point line.

“We adjusted and we put ourselves in situations where we can execute our plays,” said Lee. “Everybody got to play, so it will help us down the road.”

The Cape squad started out fast, outscoring the Ravens by 24 in the first period, and continued to outscore the home team 14-8 in the second. Freely subbing in the second half, the Vikings put up 24 points to Tech’s 15 and had a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Maleyah Bell paced the Ravens with eight points, while Alyssa Kellem and Daijah Bailey had six and five, respectively.

The Vikings move to 11-2 on the season, while the Ravens are 9-5.
