Cape senior Amalia Fruchtman scored 20 points to lead the Vikings to their eighth win Jan. 15, with a 51-14 running-clock victory over Milford.
The Vikings jumped out to a 20-1 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back, ending the opening stanza 24-6. Cape ended the half up 40-9.
Freely substituting, the Vikings added 13 points in the second half to take the 37-point victory.
Harper Mamele, Amara Fruchtman, Ally Diehl and Jordynn Bowe each hit four points. Erinn Rodriguez, Mikaela Gordan, Mairead Rishko, Kallea Eleazar, Maya Yngve, Jurnee White and Natalie Horsey each had a basket. Sydney Whetzel had one from the charity stripe.
“After a loss to Family Academy and a tough win against Smyrna, we needed a game to get everyone in,” said Cape coach Ron Dukes.
The 8-2 Vikings travel to Sussex Tech Tuesday, Jan. 20, to face the 6-2 Ravens.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
