Cape girls’ basketball celebrates seniors with win over Bucs

Vikings run the clock on Milford
February 12, 2026

The Cape girls’ basketball team celebrated the Class of 2026 Feb. 10, with a 59-25 running-clock victory over Milford. The Vikings move to 14-2 on the season. The Bucs slide back to 2-13.

Cape started slow, scoring just nine points in the first quarter after two lead changes with the Bucs. The second quarter saw the legs coming back to the home team, as they finished the first half with a 22-12 lead.

The Vikings looked like themselves in the second half, outscoring the Bucs 26-1 in the third quarter and finishing the game on a 37-13 run.

“The first half we were really tired, I think,” said senior Sydney Whetzel. “It may have been the excitement for Senior Night, but we got it together the second half and brought our energy back.”

Senior Amalia Fruchtman led all scorers with 18 points. Junior Mairead Rishko tallied 10, while Whetzel hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with seven points. Jurnee White dropped in six.

“We were really excited after beating Padua,” said senior Erinn Rodriguez. “It was just a slow start. We were pumped because of Senior Night and lots of people were here. The people showed up for us and we showed up for the people.”

“We started slow in this game,” said Cape coach Ron Dukes. “It may have been Senior Night, and we started some different players who haven’t played together much in a game. You try to flow the starters back in and they aren’t zoned in. We had a little conversation in the locker room at halftime, and we came out the way we should come out in the third and turned things around. It’s great to see all of the seniors out there and doing great things.”
