Cape Henlopen Elks 2540 supports Stockings for Soldiers

January 13, 2022

After holding a successful golf outing in October to raise funds for local veterans, Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 of Lewes was able to present a $1,000 check to Stockings for Soldiers.

Having previously served the country, members of the Elks’ Veterans Committee know firsthand how stressful it is to be deployed away from home and family, and wished to show support and caring to those serving during the recent holidays.

For 18 years, Stockings for Soldiers has led the community effort to send personalized holiday greetings to brave young men and women in uniform serving this country. Stockings were stuffed with a greeting card, paperback novel, personal items and goodies to eat. They were sent to troops deployed to 13 countries around the world, and sites along the Texas border and three Navy ships. For many troops, this gift is all they receive for the holidays.

This is just one of the many ways that the Elks’ Veterans Committee helps to improve the morale and welfare of members of the U.S. armed forces, and they appreciate the support of the community in doing so.
