Cape High senior earns Quartermaster rank

Sea Scout Sarah Krajewski refurbished Dewey Beach playground for service project

Cape High senior Sarah Krajewski recently received the Sea Scouts’ highest honor, the rank of Quartermaster.

Sea Scouts are a coed nautical program of the Boy Scouts of America. Sarah’s rank is equivalent to that of an Eagle Scout, said her father Ron, an original member of Sea Scout Ship 198 of Lewes, which was founded in 1992.

“It’s the highest rank in Sea Scouts,” Ron said. “Only 40 a year are awarded.”

Sarah, who hopes to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, said she refurbished the John Waples Playground at the Dewey Beach Lions Club for her community service project.

“I took out the mulch, and replaced it with new rubber mulch and ground covering,” Sarah said. “It took about two-and-a-half weeks. It was a big project.”

District 3 Councilman Mark Schaeffer joined Sarah and members of her family in the Cape High rotunda Dec. 20 to present her with a proclamation in her honor from Sussex County Council.
