July 2, 2025

The Cape Henlopen School District announced a group of exceptional students from Cape Henlopen High School recently earned the Delaware Certificate of Multiliteracy, awarded by the Delaware Department of Education to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one other language.

This statewide recognition celebrates students’ dedication to developing high-level communication skills and their commitment to becoming global citizens. To receive this honor, students must meet rigorous proficiency standards through state-approved assessments in both English and a world language.

“These students have achieved something truly special,” said Dr. Jessica Hazzard, Cape High assistant principal. “They’ve not only mastered academic content, but have also embraced the power of multilingualism, which will serve them well in college, careers and their communities.”

Languages featured by this year’s recipients include English in combination with Spanish, Russian or Turkish, showcasing the diversity and talent within Cape schools. Students who earn the certificate of multiliteracy can include this accomplishment on college applications, job resumes and scholarship submissions.

The certifications reflect Cape’s continued focus on preparing students to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world. It affirms the value of cultural understanding and academic excellence, and the importance of language learning.
