Cape JROTC honors district's veterans
Cape Henlopen’s JROTC program held its annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony Nov. 14, which recognizes and honors school district employees who have served the United States, and other local veterans' organizations. The commander of the ceremony was Cadet Lt. Col. Alex Dominick. Reviewing officers were state Rep. Steve Smyk, R-Milton; Cape Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Mike Kelley; Principal Brian Donahue; and the guests of honor.
Guests of honor were World War II veterans Capt. Ernest Swanson (U.S. Marine Corps), Edward Patterson (U.S. Army Air Corps), and Carlo Ratenni (U.S. Army). They received Special Certificates from the Delaware General Assembly and the U.S. Army Cadet Command.
All veterans who are employees of the Cape Henlopen School District and local veterans' organizations received Certificates of Appreciation from the Cape Henlopen School District and the Fourth Brigade JROTC Cadet Command for their past and present service to the nation and local community.
Also, Cadet Maj. Victoria Handlin received the Department of the Army Superior Cadet Decoration for her outstanding work with the high school homecoming parade in October.
