The Cape Henlopen girls' lacrosse team coming off their first loss in 40 games struck like lightning in an unsettled sky May 8 at Caesar Rodney, racing to a 14-1 halftime led on the way to a 22-5 victory.

The second half saw a 30-minute thunder intermission that cancelled the junior varsity game that was to follow.

“I feel bad for JV kids who lost a game and will not play against Tower Hill who cancelled the JV because of lack of players,” said Cape coach P.J. Kesmodel.

The game against Caesar Rodney was a shakedown of the Queen Anne’s performance and a run-up to the Tower Hill game which will be played under the lights of Champions Stadium at 7 p.m., Friday, May 10.

‘We’ve known since last year that Tower Hill had lots of talent coming back and we would have a big game against them if not play them again in the tournament, ” Kesmodel said. ‘Our kids are really excited about the game.”

Cape players did what they do against the Riders, which is win draws and get goals from a variety of players who can ring the bell.

Jordan Brown and Sara Young each had 4, followed by Anna Frederick, Allie Yeager and Sarah Tappan each with 3 and single goals from Kat Judge, Lexi Woodruff, Karrissa Lemaire, Riley Wagner and Karalyn Joseph.

Assists came from Yeager 3, Joseph 2 and Lemaire, Tappan, Young, Woodruff, Judge, Lizzie Frederick and Anna Frederick.

Caesar Rodney goals were scored by Christine Holden, Jacqueline Mihok, Kourtney Olsen, Jenna Rigby and Megan Card.
