Collick retires a winner
June 25, 2018

Retiring Cape head coach Bill Collick went out on top, as his Gold squad defeated the Blue team 24-14 at the DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star football game at the University of Delaware’s Tubby Raymond Field June 23. His son, Billy, was one of his assistants.

It was the 63rd time the game has been played to raise funds to help people of all ages in Delaware with intellectual disabilities. Since 1956, more than $6 million has been raised to fund programs in the First State.

Each team was made up of 36 players, along with cheerleaders, senior and junior ambassadors, and band members. Players are nominated by their school’s head coach and are approved by a committee of coaches. Cape’s representatives were players Zach Dale and Ben Ashby, and cheerleaders Haley Schnupp and Lauren Steingrebe.

“The Blue-Gold game has truly been the best experience of my life,” said Dale. “I feel so proud to have been a part of this. I've made friendships that will last me a lifetime, not only from players, but from the Hand in Hand Program as well. It felt amazing helping coach Collick go out on top.”

“Cheerleading for the Blue-Gold All-Star football game was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Schnupp. “I have created so many memories and friendships that will last forever.”
