Cape soccer falls to Charter in OT

Vikings complete season with 12-4 record
May 22, 2025

After 92 minutes of an intensely tough match on the Legends Stadium pitch, the Charter’s Alexa Guareri put a shot along the wet turf and into the Cape cage to earn a 1-0 double-overtime quarterfinal victory over the No. 3 Vikings.

Each team had chances in the regulation, and each showed great resilience in the back-and-forth contest.

“This is one of the most talented teams we’ve had in a decade, even though we were so young,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “We graduate just three girls this year. Everybody’s coming back. It’s something to look forward to, and I hope this is a learning experience for the girls and we can grow from it. I hope these girls come back hungry next March.”

“Overall we are just really proud of everyone on this team,” said Cape junior Jaidyn Jones. “We’re proud of how we’ve done this season and how we played tonight ... Hopefully we’ll come back next season stronger. We will continue to play with our hearts and our heads, and advance the sport we love.”

“I’m just proud of us working together; [we] worked ourselves up from the bottom to where we are,” said sophomore Isla Touw. “We had so much fun getting to know each other on and off the field. We played hard all season, and played this game with all of our hearts. We gave everything. It didn’t turn out the way we wanted, but I’m proud we made it this far.”

The Vikings’ season comes to an end with a record of 12-4. It is the best record in Cape girls’ soccer history, according to Kilby.
