Lindsey Swontek scored three first-half goals, giving her seven in Cape’s three games, as the Vikings powered to an 8-0 win over Woodbridge April 1 in the first game of a three-game home stand.
The win gives the Lady Vikings their third straight shutout of the season, while the Blue Raiders fall to 0-4.
“Lindsey proved to be a very effective piece in our ability to grow from the beginning of the game to the end of the game,” said head coach Patrick Kilby. “We look for her to contribute at a high level from here on out.”
“The first half was a little rough,” Swontek said. “But by the second half, we were all able to connect and play as a team with a good flow.”
Brooke Hollingsworth, Madison Nichols, Paige Ludwicki, Claire Rasin and Sydney Zych slammed in second-half goals. Madi Swontek and her big sis Lindsey each had two assists in the game, while Ludwicki, Rasin, Nichols and Clarice Boslet had one apiece.
“We started off slow in regard to holding possession, but as the game progressed, we became more effective in the attacking third, creating chances of combination play. Very pleased on the way we ended the game,” Kilby said.
The Lady Vikings outshot the Raiders 13-4 and held a 7-0 edge in corners.
Cape switched goalies four times, replacing starter Nichols with Zych, Ludwicki and Lexi Bickleman. They teamed for four saves. Woodbridge goalkeeper Anjolie Suberro stopped five Cape scoring attempts.
“We were able to work together as a a team well and get everybody involved to get a good overall team win,” said sophomore Madi Swontek, who has a goal and four assists on the season.
