October 28, 2015

The seniors on the Cape boys' soccer squad brought out their best game for the final regular-season game at Legends Stadium, as they hung eight goals on the Senators of Dover to win the Henlopen Conference Northern Division crown.

Senior Jack Ashby led the Vikings with three goals, while Drew Mulcahy added two. Zack Gelof, Steven Matalavage and Ulysis Slagle each scored once.

Mulcahy and Matalavage each had two helpers, while Slagle, Gelof and Joao Ferreira tallied one assist each.

The Vikings outshot the Senators 24-8.

Cape goalies Brent Hochrein and Noah Clifton teamed for six stops, while Dover keeper Sean Quirk had 16 saves.

"We are peaking at the right time," said head coach Patrick Kilby. "It's an exciting time for the program to get the first Northern Division title since 2011 and to be playing for the conference championship, but we're taking it one game at a time."

The Vikings now turn their attention to the state tournament, which is set to begin Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 10 and 11.
