Sophomore shortstop Ava Calciano went yard in the third inning to lead Cape to its first win over Smyrna since 2016.

Calciano had three RBIs in the 8-7 victory over the Eagles.

Abby Marsh went the distance in the circle, scattering 11 hits while striking out seven. She also delivered at the dish, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Vikings had 11 hits in the game.

Cape second baseman Milena Buehler went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Left fielder Ava Simeone went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Hayden Hudson picked up an RBI.

Makayla Brantley led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance.

“First of all, great win for our kids and our program,” said Cape coach Mike Tkach. “Smyrna has a long, strong tradition and our girls stepped up to the challenge. We are growing as a team where we are competing through the good moments and the rough ones. Abby Marsh pitched seven strong innings and Ava Calciano hit her first home run. We continued to get production from so many different individuals on this team.”

The Vikings sit at 7-4 on the season with less than a month left in the regular schedule. Cape will be back in action at 4:15 p.m., Monday, May 1, at Seaford, then get right back to it at 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, at Polytech. The Vikings will host Milford on Senior Day at 4:15 p.m., Thursday, May 4.
