The Cape softball squad put up a strong comeback to take a 9-8 lead in the fourth inning before Caesar Rodney scored in the extra inning to pin a heartbreaking 10-9 loss on the Lady Vikings.
It was looking bleak for the Vikings as the Riders scored six runs in the top of the second, five unearned. The Vikings answered quickly, tallying three in the bottom stanza. Each team put up two in the third, including a home run by Cape's Jordyn Virden.
Cape continued to pour it on in the fourth with a booming three-run homer by Hannah Jones.
The Vikings outhit the Riders 12-9, but committed four errors in the contest.
"It was a very disappointing loss," said Cape coach Jeff Evans. "You can't spot a good team like Caesar Rodney six runs like we did in the second inning. I'm really proud at how we battled back, though."
