Cape students, staff can still expect snow days this school year

Online assignments, Zoom classes to resume if schools closed more than one day
December 7, 2020

Yes, students, there will be snow days in the Cape Henlopen School District this year.

The always-welcome early morning robocall from Cape Superintendent Bob Fulton announcing school closings during weather emergencies will still take place as warranted, officials said, at least for the first day of inclement weather.

“Basically, it will depend on the situation and the severity of the weather delay (power issues, internet connectivity, etc.),” said Cape Communications Coordinator Steph DeMalto in a Dec. 2 email.

For the first day of inclement weather, there will be no school or work for students and staff, DeMalto said. If the weather emergency continues for a second day, students will receive asynchronous assignments posted online that they are to complete independently.

If schools are closed for three days or more, students will receive asynchronous assignments and asynchronous instruction, as warranted, meaning they will work independently and over Zoom, DeMalto said.

“Fortunately we can switch easily between the modes due to each student having a device,” DeMalto said. “If there are continued power outages and such, then there would be another snow day/no school.”
