Cape senior Jacob Gabbard leaves the blocks in the 50 free. The Cape swimming program celebrated its seniors Feb. 3, with a boys’ 112-50 win and a girls’ 108-59 victory over Indian River.
The Vikings finished the regular-season Henlopen Conference schedule with the Northern Division title and are prepping to swim for the Henlopen Conference Championship Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center.
The Cape boys took nine of the 11 events from the Indians, while the girls took the top spot in eight of 11 events.
“It was almost bittersweet to end the regular season,” said senior Gianna Brown. “I’ve been with almost everyone on this team for the past four years, and we’re all about to start new chapters in life.”
“I’m really happy with the season and proud of all the accomplishments that not only me but also the team achieved this year,” said senior Trent Kauffman. “I’m so proud of the growth I have made in the sport, and that’s all due to these wonderful coaches and teammates.”
“it was nice getting to swim one last meet surrounded by friends and family,” said senior Sofia Brianceau.
