The Cape swim teams ended their regular season with tough but spirited losses to Salesianum and Ursuline Feb. 10 at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach.
The previously undefeated boys’ squad fell 91-74 to Sallies, while the girls lost 101.5-68.5 to the Raiders.
On the boys’ side, Cape took top honors in the 200 medley relay in 1:40.44 with a team of Jack Bain, Jaxen Edwards, Brady Schell and Weston Bohl. Schell won the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.50. Edwards placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.44.
The Vikings finished the meet with a 3:30.48 clocking to win the 400 free relay with Jack Bain, Elijah Oliver, Cole Huxtable and Hugh Jack.
“It was good to have great competition in a meet leading up to states,” said Schell. “It helped give us a sense of what we will be going against and mentally prepare. Sallies is a strong team, and it’s always fun and challenging to compete against great swimmers.”
Cape’s Mia Jaoude won the 500 free in 24.15. She followed that up with a 58.76 clocking in the 100 butterfly. Isla Touw garnered first in the 100 free with a time of 56.61.
The Vikings won both free relays. The 200 went to the team of Sidney Caldwell, Touw, Zoey Neufeld and Jaoude in 1:44.73, while the 400 was won by the team of Isla Touw, Hayden Hazzard, Lily Touw and Jaoude in 3:48.00.
“This meet against Ursuline gave us a good idea about what to expect at states from a great team,” said Jaoude. “The competition will be fierce, but we will be ready for the challenge.”
