Cape unified football team defeats Middletown

The Cape unified football team moved to 4-1 with a 66-62 victory over Middletown Nov.1 at Legends Stadium. The Cavaliers are now 1-6.
“We had a great game on Senior Night,” said Cape coach Drew Messick. “The seniors played great. It was awesome to see all these Class of 2024 [players] getting a well-deserved win against a good team.”
Senior Tony Palmer scored seven touchdowns for the Vikings. He also sacked the quarterback in the end zone for a safety. Noah Ryan scored two touchdowns and an extra point. Senior Connor Pencek scored a touchdown and had two sacks. Ethan Carney scored three extra points. Peyton Lamson-Reich, Charlotte Maxwell and Sophia Adams all gained valuable yardage for the Vikings’ offense.
Jackson Wood led the defense, garnering two interceptions to end Cavalier drives. Other impact players on D were Randolph Adams, Ronnie LeRoy and Alejandro Alvarez-Roman. Pencek, Palmer and Ryan played hard in the defensive backfield.
Junior Randolph Adams saved the game with a open-field tackle of a Middletown runner who had a clear lane ahead in the waning seconds of the game.
“Randolph Adams saved the game with a great tackle,” Messick said. “We will have him and his sister, Sophia, back next year for their senior seasons.”
The Vikings travel to Appoquinimink Thursday, Nov. 9, to face the Jags for their last regular-season game.
