August 11, 2022

Cape basketball coach Steve Re, along with coaches and counselors, provided three half-days of intense fun, combining boys and girls divided into two age groups.

As reported by Re: “We have 55 kids in camp [split into the] fourth/fifth-grade division (Big Ten) and the sixth/seventh/eighth-grade division (NBA). The start of camp consists of dynamic stretching followed up with some individual ball handling. Then the players rotate through a variety of stations to develop multiple skills and fundamentals. After station work, the kids play 3 v. 3 using seven different courts and get multiple games with their teams. We mix in a few quick competitions throughout and then finish the day with 5 v. 5. Records are kept for 3 v. 3 and 5 v. 5 for tournaments to be played on the last day. The players have all worked very hard, demonstrated terrific attitudes/sportsmanship and competitive spirit. There is a lot of future potential in the gym this week.”

The coaching contingent also includes coach Sean O’Grady from Beacon and coach Bryant Hazzard from Mariner. Coach Paul Weisengoff will be an assistant on the varsity boys’ Cape team.

Counselors are a part of the high school varsity teams for boys and girls: Faith Re, Amalia Fruchtman, Drew Zimmerman, Trey Leggins and Bryan Graham.
